A photo journey through Ostend, Belgium

Ostend Kite Festival

The beach was lined with colourful and crazy kites all weekend.

My gorgeous nautical themed Avenue Beach Hotel with the comfiest, squidgest bed ever.

horse statue in Ostend

The king once lived in Ostend and there are reminders all over the city.

Rock Strangers

I love these sculptures by Arne Quinze. They’re meant to look strange and out of place to make us question our surroundings and help give cities an identity.

Fat Matilda

This lovely lady is officially called ‘Sea’ but she’s been renamed by locals at ‘Fat Matilda’. She was originally on the casino but was taken down and never quite made it back up there.

Belgium Waffles

Om nom. The perfect snack after a busy day cycling.

    1. I think I’d rather be on the casino to be honest. The fountain was next to the main road and the casino is quite a grand building in the centre of town. Poor Matilda hasn’t got the best position either way!

  1. I need to explore Belgium and Ostend sounds like a good place to start! I only know the Brussels train station from the time when I commuted from Paris to Den Haag! Next pix.

  2. Did all the chocolates make it home? Don’t think I could have resisted trying one or two… or three! And boy, does that waffle look good.

    1. Hi Claudia. We did it at Café Botteltje. I’m guessing lots of bars and restaurants offer beer tasting but I can really recommend this one. It was a lot of fun and also well organised and they told us about the beers and had a special room that was perfect for tastings. You can see their craft beer menu here –
